Impostor Syndrome and how to win over your mind

Sometimes it just feels like we can’t totally get away from this thing called impostor syndrome. Because I mean I’ve dealt with it countless times and hoped I will never feel it’s grip again. But guess what, it still comes running back. Although now, I’m able to quickly rein it in.

My most recent episode started when I was about to introduce a vlog to my channel on YouTube. Because asides from this blog, I also have a channel where I run fashion tutorials, sewing tips and etc. So me going out of the norm of the channel by introducing a vlog got me kind of jittery. Because I kept thinking….

Who do you even think you are. And why do you think people would be interested in whatever it is you have to say. The starter pack for impostor syndrome. Sowing self doubt and trying to make you believe you are incapable.

But these feelings are not unfamiliar to me. Because I had them when I was trying to start this blog and still went ahead with it anyway. Now look at me doing wonders with the said blog.

This all made me think of all the inner battles we have to fight when we are embarking on something new. How that negative giant in our heads can be the most challenging adversary to overcome. Because it has the power to cripple us not just mentally but physically. It’s why we are taught to take care of every aspect of our being.

Because they have the power to influence one another. The mental interfering with the physical or the emotional interfering with the mental. All of them interconnected. So nurturing them all efficiently is one step towards being that total, complete, human that we are.

But while I’m in doubt worrying over this vlog, what I know for sure is that I’m still going to go for it. Because I’ve had practice in never letting it win. Most especially with my blog. I’ve had practice in never letting those negative emotions win over my willpower.

And now I know I don’t have to settle. Because I fought impostor syndrome before and won which makes the present one I’m dealing with less terrifying. My past winnings making way for the present.

It’s hard, I’m not going to lie. And if you have had a lifetime of letting those negative emotions win over you, it’s going to be even harder. But it’s still not doomsday. You can take it one step at a time.

A step being as little as choosing to exercise even when your mind says nothing is going to work and you’re going to be overweight forever.

Doing this paves way for more of your willpower when your mind stands as an opposition. And it gets significantly better down the lane. So I’m still going to go ahead with the Vlog no matter what that negative mind throws in my way.

What do you think of this piece. And have you had troubles dealing with impostor syndrome, self doubt or the likes? Please share in the comments. I would love to hear from you.
