10 Well paying Jobs for introverts who like to work alone

You see I’m a true and strong believer in going after careers that suit your personality type. Because it is one of the best ways to guarantee you a peaceful life. It is also one of the truest ways you can find fulfillment in your chosen career or field.

The first ever job I got as a graduate was at a call center. I worked as an outbound Contact Centre agent. And my main job synopsis was to make sales calls to customers on the various campaigns of the organization I was representing.

I did this for approximately 6 months and it uncovered so many truths about my life I hadn’t yet discovered before. I remember everything from the joy of getting that job to the point 6 months later when I realized I needed to start my life over. That period opened up for me a significant reason why you need to consider what your personality type is before going after a job or a career.

I remember vividly how I used to feel so drained at the end of every workday because of too much stimulation. Seeing as talking for long periods of time wasn’t a strong point for me as an introvert. And the tendency to internalize things being one of my strongest personality traits, crying my eyes out in the restroom after being spoken to harshly by a customer was a regular.

Now as individuals, there are three things we need to consider when choosing a career. And these are;

  • Passion / Interest
  • Skills / Talent
  • and financial viability.

But as an introvert, you need to also take into consideration your various personality traits when choosing a career or a job that have the potential to bring you fulfillment.

Here are 10 career opportunities I think introverts should consider when choosing jobs that would align with their personality type.

Social media management

This career opportunity can be good for some introverts as it affords you the freedom to control interactions, think thoroughly before you share posts. And also requires little to zero physical interaction with your audience. All you need is to be good at social media, curate content for the brand you are representing, reply comments / messages.  And then you get paid.

The best part of this is that you can have as much quiet moments as you want. You also get to work in an environment you’re comfortable in.

Blogging / Writing

If you like writing, blogging is one career that will interest you. It’s a job that requires minimal physical interaction. All you need to do is to set up your blog, write your posts and promote. Successful bloggers earn money through ads, affiliate marketing, sponsored posts etc.

And even if you are not interested in creating a blog from scratch. You can earn  money freelancing or writing for other accomplished blogs etc. Sometimes you don’t even need to meet your employer as everything can be done through emails, phone calls etc.

Content creating

This can go in the form of a blog, a youtube channel, ebook, podcast, twitter thread, etc. It basically involves you creating materials around topics you are knowledgeable in or passionate about. This content could be in the form of videos, pictures, articles, info graphics etc. Content creation affords you the opportunity to choose when, where and what time you want to interact with your audience.

Youtube is generally known to offer financial benefits to creators through paid ads when you get a certain amount of traffic or engagements on your channel. With Instagram and twitter you can get paid brand partnerships or collaborations when you hit a certain number of followers.

Online food vendor

All you need is a passion for cooking and you’re there. You make the food, post on your social media pages, run ads and promote till you get your audience. You could even get someone to answer the calls for you and take down orders if that’s a bit too much stimulation for you.

Graphic Designing

This involves using a computer software to create ideas or visual concepts that aim to educate, inspire or inform your audience or final consumer.

It’s a career path that provides you the flexibility to work on your own. And although you might have group meetings or meetings with your clients, the actual job of creating visuals can be done on your own. In a quiet space where you can concentrate and do your best job.

Photography is very broad and not all aspects of this career path suit introverts well. Since the goal is to be able to get ample alone time after interactions with the outside world. You can consider freelancing, nature photography, editorials as viable aspects to consider as an introvert.

Software engineering

This field is also very broad and popularly known to pay really well. It all involves writing codes, designing, fixing bugs, testing softwares or applications. All of which can be done independently.

What I like most about it is that a major part of your work life involves just you and your computer.

Although you might have to meet with teams or clients, you still get ample alone time to recharge.

Proof reading

This basically involves reading and editing documents and making sure they are free from grammatical errors, spellings or typos etc.

With that said, it’s a job that you can do from anywhere in the world. At home, at the park, a coffee shop or wherever. You also get to choose what time you want to work. And the best part, you get to read, which I know most introverts love to do. Although the documents might not be very interesting reads, you can still learn one or two new things just from doing your job.

Drop shipping

This is a branch of e-commerce that has you selling products or taking orders of products that you don’t have in stock.

These products are usually from a third partner who then fulfills the order. Your job as a drop shipper is to create an online store, upload digital pictures of products, take down orders, receive payment. And pass the order on to the supplier of the product for fulfillment or delivery. That’s it.

Everything is done online with little to zero human interaction.

Therapy

A therapist is a licensed mental health professional who helps in counseling or rehabilitating people to improve their emotional health, mental health and cognitive skills.

One of the strongest character traits of introverts is listening. We also have a good sense of observation. And do not necessarily detest human interaction. We only want the chance to be able to manage a few at a time.

We value one on one human connections and therefore are able to empathize. Because we got to establish a deep and intimate connections with the person we are interacting with. Now with these few qualities outlined, I think introverts will make good therapists / psychologists.

Which of the above career choices would you be considering as an introvert and why ? I would love to hear from you.

Nice… It’s why I always say introverts are not exactly recluse. We love company but just prefer them in smaller doses.
