Powerful ways rekindling childhood passions helps you know yourself more

Rediscovering your childhood passions is a great pathway to finding out more about yourself.

A few days back, I was having a discussion with my mum. A random banter based on what me and my siblings loved to do when we were kids. We started with my youngest brother who right from age 10 had this entrepreneurial spirit and always liked to ask my mum how her business was moving. Her profits and her losses and just how much she had made in revenue so far.

I’m talking of someone who at the age of 13 started poultry farming of his own accord as a business. He started web designing at 15 and literally used to go from school to school in the neighborhood asking to help redesign their websites for a fee. Now, even though all of these businesses failed, the spirit or motivation he has for the business world didn’t die. He failed, picked himself up, and tried his hands at other things because that’s his passion anyways.

The zeal he has for the entrepreneurial world keeps getting strengthened and that is what sets him apart. The motivation to keep fighting no matter what’s thrown at him keeps him going. And now, he has two thriving businesses as an adult.

Then we moved the conversation from my youngest brother to my immediate brother and then to me. And we came to the understanding of just how different the three of us were. I was that child who loved to read books. I also enjoyed teaching. And literally used to gather my siblings together with children of our close neighbors, whilst play acting as their teacher.

I was that kid who was perfectly alright staying indoors as long as there were books in abundance to read. I loved the capabilities books possess to transport me into another realm. To feel what I haven’t felt before, to see what I haven’t seen before and to escape into another world through my imaginations. And as an adult, no matter the circumstances, one thing you can bet on about me is that I’m always reading.

Now, where am I going with all of these?

Well, what I’m trying to say is that, whatever that thing is, that you loved to do as a child. No matter how deep you must have buried it in your subconscious, it will always manifest later in your adult life. You really can’t escape it because it was your first love anyways. Now, some people are lucky in that they are able to turn that passion into a money making venture and be successful while at it.

But, while others might not be that lucky, it’s still very much important for us as adults to try to rediscover our childhood passions.

Because it can serve as a way to unwind when the ropes of the world we live in has wound us tight. It can be an outlet. A place to find succor when things aren’t exactly going right. And a place we can derive unlimited happiness/ energy from.

As for me, the fact that I’m writing on this blog, sharing reviews of some of the best books I ever read ( you can check that out here ). And sharing my life experiences with you as regards living as an introvert in a very extroverted world is testament to the fact that my first love never left me. I also have a YouTube channel where I teach fashion which also coincides with my love for teaching. And serves as an outlet for me.

Now, what were those things you loved to do when you had free time as a kid? Introspect and think of those things you used to derive boundless energy from. The things you never seemed to get tired of doing. Sifting through those memories will help you rediscover some long forgotten passions you haven’t yet tried to develop.

For me, I don’t think there was ever a time I liked the mechanics of buying and selling. I almost always preferred my creative side more which never drains me as much as doing business does. There are always clues in our early life that hints at the shape our future is going to take.

Don’t you think so ?
