4 Foolproof ways to remind yourself of who you are

Sometimes you forget who you are. What you carry, what you are made of. And the amount of potential you have just lying around.

It’s great when you’re in that funk and know what you need to do to get out of it. But sometimes, you just know something’s wrong but the “how” of how to get out of it feels very unclear. So you just wallow in that rut. And keep sinking and sinking till it becomes very difficult to get out of it.

But it’s not impossible if you’re willing to try.

Now at those times when you don’t know what to do, there are 4 things that can help. These 4 solutions I’m going to be sharing are things that have worked for me. And I really think they’ll work for you too.

Reaffirmations

You need to be reminded of who you are and what you carry. This can be gotten externally from close friends who obviously knew you before your present predicament. Because at this point, you have become used to that bad situation. And see yourself only from the perspective of that negativity.

So you need to spend time with your friends. And encourage them to tell you things that they like about you. Or what kind of person they think you are.

Write how you feel

Sometime last month, I was feeling really out of sort. Couldn’t think straight and totally felt like I didn’t know what I was doing anymore. I just kept moping around even though I knew I needed to get out of that head space. Because getting stuck there is a really bigger disaster.

So what did I do?

I put pen to paper and wrote my feelings out. Because yes, when you’re feeling down, it’s important to acknowledge what you’re feeling. And what better way than to write it down. If you also need to cry it out while at it, please kindly yield to the tears.

Because sometimes, there is nothing better than a really good cry. The power it has to help you let out all the pain you’re feeling and bring relief to your soul is really underrated.

Read through your old journals

Now that you’re done acknowledging how you feel in the present. The next best thing is to go back in time and read through your old journal entries. You get to see in your own writing who you actually are and the power you carry. Because you need to recognize that you are much more than your present predicament.

You need to be reminded of your journey, your goals, where you started from and where you are going to. You need to recognize that you are magic and you’re capable of magic. This refuels your energy and gives you the needed motivation to carry on.

Write new affirmations

Now that you’re motivated and super charged, write some positive affirmations about your life. And read it out to yourself daily. Even if you don’t feel like it, just keep reading it out aloud till those words become a part of you. And then pray.

Because prayer works and it gives you the peace and the hope that you need to carry on.
