7 Helpful things to do when you’re feeling overwhelmed

Are you feeling overwhelmed, drained and have no clue how to handle it ? Then I think it’s time you pause, clear out your schedule and follow these essential steps.

Pinpoint the root source of the problem

Let your body feel and think and rest. Think of nothing and of everything. Find out what that thing is, that is causing you to feel overwhelmed and nail it down.

Does this have to do with work, school, family life or your relationships. Narrow it down and point out the root source.

Find solutions within your control

Try to find solutions to the stressors you discovered earlier, especially the ones within your control. If it has to do with a relationship or friendship gone sour, consider ironing things out with the person. Call them up. And have a discussion over the problem.

If that doesn’t work, accept that you tried and acknowledge the efforts you put into trying to find a peaceful resolution. Try not to beat yourself up over it as it’s no longer within your control and move on.

Take a short walk

Whip up your clothes and take short walks appreciating nature. And the beauty that is in everything. Breathe in the relaxing air around you. And appreciate life for what it is to you.

Think of the many different things you have to be thankful for and embrace gratitude.

Journaling

Do you have a journal? Now is the time to pick it up and read some of your old entries. Entries that’ll remind you of who you are, what your goals are, where you’ve come from. And the hurdles you’ve overcome.

Meditate on that and try to find relief.

Don’t have one ? Be kind to yourself and get a journal. Write out what you’re are feeling and let the pages of your journal soak up these emotions.

Set time out to relax

Get a relaxing book, especially one with a happy ending that’ll make you riled up in excitement and delve in. Or maybe binge watch your favorite series if you find movies more of a comfort than books. Anything that’ll just get you to relax excluding drugs and alcohol.

Break your work into compartments

In a case where you aren’t able to just drop everything, divide your work load into smaller chunks that will ease the strain on you.

Set time outs for yourself. And take short breaks in between working and meeting deadlines.

Find Solace in a community

Last but not the least is to reach out to your community. Your community of friends or those you share an intimate relationship / connection with. This can help get your mind off your triggers and help you find relief.

What are your thoughts on these and how do you deal with that feeling of being drained and overwhelmed? Please type it in the comments. I would love to hear from you.
